Guide Podcast Generation with a User Prompt

We've redesigned the new episode input field to align more closely with common workflows in other AI applications like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Starting today, you can provide additional instructions via a "user prompt" to steer the output of your podcast episode.

Background

Previously, anything that was added into the new episode text box was considered a source, including text. Based on user feedback, we realized there are often two distinct input types used when creating a podcast episode.

The first type are sources - individual files, websites, etc. that provide context for the episode. These are foundational documents that provide up-to-date information to ground the podcast generation in user-provided knowledge.

Jellypod supports over 70 different source types, from Powerpoint, PDFs, and Word documents, to website blogs, YouTube links, and more.

The other input type is a prompt - a way to steer the episode towards specific details, topics, or a conversation style. Until today, the recommended approach was to add in a "text source" that provided additional guidance for the AI model. But now we fully support the inclusion of an optional user prompt that provides additional instruction on how the episode should be created.

How it Works

The new episode flow remains extremely similar. To create an episode, you can still drag and drop sources into the input field which will be processed and used as context (or add a website link).

However, just like in ChatGPT, short text inputs will remain in the text box rather than being added as a source. This becomes your "user prompt", which can be used to guide the episode creation.

We recommend adding all of your sources into the input box first, and then optionally type a few words to steer the output.

Once you've added all your sources and additional instructions via your user prompt, click Create Episode. Jellypod then processes it all together and creates a rich episode outline for your review.

Try it out today and let us know what you think!

Add and Remove Episode Sources

The creative process isn't linear - ideas evolve, requirements change, and new inspiration can appear anytime. That's why we've rolled out the ability to add, remove, and edit the sources in your podcast episodes without starting over.

How it Works

When creating a podcast on Jellypod, the first step is providing a "brain-dump" of all the sources that your episode should be grounded in. These sources can be links to a website, PDF documents, or any of our 70+ supported file types.

When you add a source, we extract its content and include it in the generation process of your new show. These sources persist across the entire episode lifecycle – from outline generation to script writing – guaranteeing content accuracy, depth, and creative control.

Previously, the process of adding sources was limited to the initial episode creation. Meaning, once you created an episode with sources, you couldn't make any changes to the sources used. Starting today, sources in your episode are fully editable at every step - giving you the ability to add or remove context and regenerate your episode without starting from scratch.

To edit the sources used in your episode, click on the Sources button in the Outline Editor toolbar. This will open up a window that displays all the current sources, where you can remove or add sources. You can also download the original source documents, if needed.

Other Major Changes

Improved Processing Speeds

One of the most important pillars of Jellypod is building a responsive, fast, and fun experience that accelerates your creation process and doesn't hold you back.

We've improved source file extraction speed by over 10x, taking average processing times from 60+ seconds to under five. By making initial source processing faster, we can get you into the outline editor faster and reduce the time to your first podcast episode.

Increased Source Limits

All users now have access to increased source limits! Free users can now add up to 5 Sources per episode (increased from three) and all paying users, regardless of tier, can add up to 20 Sources.

Generate Per Episode Cover Art

We're super excited to announce a customization feature on Jellypod that will take your individual episodes to the next level!

Previously, there was no way to generate unique cover art for each individual episode directly in Jellypod. Although we create AI cover art for your podcast series by default, individual episodes were left out from this feature.

Now, every episode (and podcast series) can generate cover art using a prompt, in addition to uploading your own image if you have one.

Check out this a 2-minute tutorial to see how it works!

How It Works:

For Draft (Unpublished) Episodes, navigate to the episode you want to customize, go to the "Outline Tab" and click on the Image Icon next to your podcast's title. This will open a popup which you can describe your artwork in natural language. Click "Generate" when you're ready!

For Published Episodes, click on the "..." ellipsis button in your episode list, and click on "Edit Info". No need to unpublish the episode to update your art!

Then, on the left hand side, you can click on the "Episode Cover Art" area to open up a popup to describe and generate your artwork.

Pro Tips:

As a reminder, your individual episodes will use your overall podcast series artwork by default if an episode doesn't have its own image. So don't feel like each episode must have it's own artwork!

To use this new feature, log in to your Jellypod account and start creating your episode artwork. We can't wait to see what you create!

Create QR Codes for your Podcast

Distributing your podcast in real life just became easier with built-in QR Code Generation.

With a single click, Jellypod can generate a unique QR code for your podcast and it's episodes, allowing your audience to easily discover your content from in person events.

Although unlikely, if you've never used a QR Code before, QR Codes are a unique visual representation of a link that can be scanned by your phone's camera. When scanned, your phone automatically opens up your browser to the website that the code points to.

Use Cases

Here are some ways some Jellypod users are already using QR Codes:

  • Events: Sharing a podcast at conferences or live events by displaying the QR code on banners or screens.
  • Museums & Artwork: Enhancing exhibits and photography by allowing visitors to scan the artwork's QR code to listen to the backstory of the piece.
  • Educators & Professors: Some teachers are putting QR codes in their lecture's slides as additional audio material rather than copying down a link.

Add up to Four Podcast Hosts

We're thrilled to announce one of our most heavily requested features, increasing the number of hosts in your podcast from two to four.

You can now add up to four hosts to your podcast on Jellypod! Whether you're looking to host a lively three-person conversation or a dynamic four-person roundtable, you can now do it.

Adding More Hosts

Choosing hosts for your podcast is the exact same as before, but now you can select up to four. To edit your podcast to include more hosts, go to your podcast's page, click on "Edit Podcast" and then add three or four hosts.

If you already have a draft episode that's yet to be published, if you regenerate your script, it will now include the new hosts.

Here's a few ways users are already leveraging the new feature:

  • Diverse Perspectives: More hosts mean more viewpoints, making your podcast more engaging, lively, and conversational.
  • Broader Audience Appeal: Attract listeners who appreciate content in their native accent. By adding more hosts, you can create a show that covers more ground.

We can't wait to hear the incredible conversations you'll create with this new feature. Give it a try today!

Import Podcast Scripts

We recently added the ability to export Jellypod scripts so you can make edits outside of Jellypod and re-import the script for audio generation. Check it out here: https://www.jellypod.com/product-updates/export-transcripts

Many of you come to Jellypod with an existing script, one that you've already spent time editing, reviewing, and perfecting, but just need to convert it into audio.

With our new import script feature, all Jellypod users can upload existing scripts created off-platform and import them as an episode word-for-word.

You can upload plain text files (including markdown), PDF files, or via copy and paste. This makes it extremely easy to take a script that you've been working on in a platform like ChatGPT, and easily move it over to Jellypod when you're ready to generate audio.

For best results, create a plain text file where the speaker/host name is in brackets, like this: [John Doe], and their speech on a new line directly after the speaker header. Repeat this for each consecutive block for best import results.

Jellypod will intelligently match speakers in your imported script to the hosts in your podcast - it's seamless.

Once imported, you can still tweak and edit your script before generating the audio and distributing it to the world.

Duplicate Existing Podcast Episodes

All users can now easily duplicate existing episodes into new podcast episodes. Just click on the "..." ellipsis button on the episode, and then click "Duplicate Episode".

We've heard from dozens of users who needed a way to copy an existing episode into a new one, keeping the same title, description, transcript, etc. This was often to test multiple variations of the episode, or to translate content verbatim.

Previously, users were hacking this together by creating a new episode, copying and pasting the outline, title, script, etc. This was both error-prone and prohibitively time-consuming.

So we're extremely excited to announce that starting today, you can quickly copy an existing episode (including published episodes) and duplicate it into a new draft episode. The title, description, episode image, and transcript will be copied over so you can quickly make necessary tweaks and then generate the audio for the new episode.

Duplicating an episode does not copy over the previously generated audio, and you'll have to regenerate the new episode as if you created it from scratch.

Improving Transcript Generation Speed and Accuracy

Waiting for 30, 60+ seconds for your podcast's transcript to generate is now a thing of the past.

We re-architected our transcript generation system so that your transcripts are generated faster, with higher accuracy, and streamed into your editor in real time.

These improvements allow you to watch your transcript appear line by line, right in the editor, allowing you to start reviewing your podcast script before it's complete.

In addition, we've improved our models and prompts, giving you a more accurate and natural-sounding transcript grounded in the source information and host backstories that you've created.

A lot of engineering behind the scenes went to work to ensure the improved experience feels a little bit more magical. Paired with the recent changes in our transcript editor UI, we hope that these improvements allow you to more easily bring to life your ideas in a familiar and easy-to-use interface.

If you want to learn more about the technical details of what went into these improvements, follow our CEO, Pierson Marks, on X.

Reimagining the Episode Editor

We believe that creation is a process for everyone. But make that possible, we have to design an interface that give creators both enough room to work and focus on their ideas.

Today, we ripped out our previously cluttered interface in favor of a more simple, unified UI – reimagined from the ground up. A new toolbar gives creators a more familiar way to make adjustments to their episodes, and lays a foundation to continuously add new features. The outline has been separated from the transcript editor, giving more screen real estate to focus on refining your podcasts.

Here's a list of what else is new:

  • Your episode's video now takes center stage and stays in view while scrolling your transcript.
  • Each speech block now has a button to scrub your podcast directly to that block, making it easier to make adjustments and listen to the changes.
  • We've made it easier to regenerate your script and outline from the toolbar.
  • Other minor bug fixes and stability improvements.

It's important to us to create an editing interface that allows you to focus on your content rather than the workflow. We encourage you to try out the new episode editor now and experience the improvements.
