NotebookLM Pricing in 2026: What Each Plan Buys You (and Doesn't)

NotebookLM pricing isn't really NotebookLM pricing. What you are actually buying, at every paid tier, is a Google AI subscription that happens to include NotebookLM, and none of those tiers change the Audio Overview into something you can edit, brief, or publish.

That distinction matters if you landed here trying to decide whether to upgrade. Jellypod sits on the other side of that decision for a lot of people: same starting point of a document or a set of sources, but a workflow built around an editable script, hosts you name, and a real podcast feed, where drafting and editing never costs anything on any plan. Knowing what NotebookLM's money actually buys makes it obvious whether upgrading solves the problem you have.

What NotebookLM actually costs

NotebookLM is not sold on its own. Every paid tier is a feature bundled into a Google AI subscription plan, billed through Google, not through NotebookLM directly.

Ultra (20TB)$99.99/moGoogle AI Ultra5005002,500100
Ultra (30TB)$200/moGoogle AI Ultra5006005,000100

Pro and both Ultra tiers also add Gemini 3 model access, more Deep Research runs a day, and, as of the June 2026 update, code execution inside each notebook. Storage scales with the tier too: Ultra plans bundle 20TB or 30TB of Google storage that has nothing to do with NotebookLM specifically.

What that money doesn't buy

Paying more does raise how many Audio Overviews you can generate in a day, from 3 on Free up to 100 on Ultra. What it does not do, at any tier, is change the Audio Overview into something else:

  • Still one fixed format per generation. More quota means more one-off Audio Overviews, not a different kind of output. There is no re-cut or alternate take, just more attempts at the same fixed thing.
  • No script to edit. You cannot see or change a word of what the two hosts say before the audio renders, on any plan.
  • Two AI-assigned hosts you cannot name, brief, or keep consistent from one notebook to the next, regardless of tier.
  • No RSS feed, no path to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube. Every plan produces a file you download or stream once.

NotebookLM's June 2026 update is the clearest evidence of where the money actually goes: a newer model, code execution, agentic source discovery, new export formats, all gated to Ultra and Workspace Business first. Every part of that release was aimed at research. The Audio Overview format itself was untouched, on the free tier and the $200 one alike.

So is NotebookLM Plus, Pro, or Ultra worth it?

Depends entirely on what you're using NotebookLM for. If your bottleneck is notebook or source limits, Deep Research caps, or wanting Gemini 3 over the older model, the paid tiers solve exactly that, and Plus at $7.99/mo is a reasonable entry point before jumping to Pro. If your bottleneck is the Audio Overview itself, upgrading barely touches it. You get more generations a day and a faster research assistant alongside it, but the same fixed, unscriptable, two-host format you had for free.

That second group is who this is really for: you generated an Audio Overview, liked the content, and wanted to fix a line, swap a voice, or actually publish it somewhere. No NotebookLM plan, including the $200 one, adds that. A separate tool does.

Jellypod's paid plans exist for the same reason NotebookLM's do, more capacity, longer episodes, more voice clones, more seats, starting at $25/mo billed yearly. The difference is what's free before that: generating a script, editing it line by line, and regenerating audio in different voices costs nothing on any Jellypod plan. You only spend credits once you publish or download the finished episode, so you can find out whether the workflow fits before paying for more of it.

Frequently asked questions

Is NotebookLM completely free?

The core product is, with limits: 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, and 50 chat queries a day, on any Google account, no card required. Audio Overviews are included in the free tier too. What costs money is more capacity (notebooks, sources, Deep Research) and access to newer models, through a Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra subscription.

What does NotebookLM Plus actually include?

Plus is the $7.99/mo entry tier, bundled into Google AI Plus. It raises notebooks to 200, sources per notebook to 100, and daily chat queries to 200, plus a higher Audio Overview generation cap than the free tier's 3 a day. It does not add script editing, custom hosts, or anything past a single fixed two-host generation.

Is NotebookLM Pro worth it?

If you're hitting the free tier's notebook, source, or Deep Research limits, or want Gemini 3 access, yes. At $19.99/mo it's a meaningful step up in research capacity. It's not worth it if your actual complaint is the Audio Overview: Pro's 500 notebooks and 300 sources per notebook don't come with an editable script or the ability to name your hosts.

Do I have to pay for NotebookLM to get a better Audio Overview?

Paying gets you more Audio Overviews a day (3 on Free, up to 100 on Ultra), not a better one. Every tier generates the same fixed two-host conversation, with no script editing and no way to keep hosts consistent across notebooks. See NotebookLM's June 2026 update, explained for the full list of what the highest tier actually added, and confirmation that none of it touched the Audio Overview format.

Is there a free way to turn a NotebookLM Audio Overview into a real podcast?

Yes. Jellypod drafts, edits, and regenerates audio for free on every plan, including before you've paid for anything; credits are only spent when you publish or download. The full NotebookLM-to-published-podcast workflow walks through taking the same sources from a NotebookLM Audio Overview to a show live on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

The short version

NotebookLM's paid tiers are priced for research: more notebooks, more sources, more Deep Research, a newer model, and a higher daily cap on how many Audio Overviews you can generate. None of that $7.99 to $200 a month changes the format of the two-host conversation the free tier already makes. If what you actually want is to edit that conversation, name its hosts, or publish it somewhere people can subscribe, that's a different product, and it doesn't require an upgrade to find out. See the full comparison of NotebookLM alternatives if Jellypod isn't the only option you're weighing.
