How to Automate an Industry Briefing Podcast

by The Jellypod Team· · 2 min read

An industry briefing gives your audience a regular place to catch up. With Jellypod automations, you choose when new episodes are generated and save them as drafts to review before publishing.

Start with one narrow topic and audience, such as a weekly logistics briefing for operations managers. A focused prompt makes it easier to decide which stories belong in the episode.

How do you schedule an industry briefing podcast?

  1. Create or choose the podcast that will receive the episodes. Its hosts and voices carry into the automation.
  2. Open Automations, click New Automation, and choose Episode, then Continue.
  3. Choose Schedule, then Continue. Give the automation a title and select your podcast.
  4. Set the target duration and enter your standing prompt. Use the example below as a starting point.
  5. Choose the run days, time, and timezone. Check the upcoming-runs preview to confirm the cadence.
  6. Leave Auto-Publish off for the first runs. Enable Include show notes to add source links to episode descriptions, then click Create Automation.

The schedule creates new episodes. To publish an episode you have already made at a later time, use episode scheduling instead. The automation guide covers the full settings and run statuses.

What prompt should an industry briefing use?

Replace the bracketed details, and match the reporting window to your cadence. A weekly run should cover the last seven days.

Create a briefing for [audience] about [industry]. Cover developments from the last seven days. For each story, explain what happened, why it matters to this audience, and what remains uncertain. Prefer original announcements and reporting with clear dates. Do not present older news as new. Avoid repeating the same story in different words. If there is little verified news, say so rather than filling the episode with speculation.

These instructions define your editorial goal. Check the output to see whether each run met it, especially when the topic depends on recent news. If you already have a prepared digest, an Inbound Email automation can use that email as its source instead. Schedule and Inbound Email are separate triggers; one automation cannot use both.

How do you review the briefing before publishing?

Jellypod emails you when the draft is ready. Read the script, check the source links, and listen for incorrect names or figures. Confirm that publication dates fit the reporting window and that opinions are identified as opinions.

Edit the draft before publishing. Refine the standing prompt if it repeatedly includes irrelevant stories. For the broader strategy behind a public company show, see the branded podcast guide.
