Create a podcast: title, description and hosts

A podcast is a series: a title, description, hosts, and series-level settings. Episodes are the individual entries inside it. This page is part of What is Jellypod, and covers only what happens at creation.

Every new account starts with a podcast called My First Podcast and two starter default characters, so you can explore episode settings before starting a trial or choosing a plan. Free exploration lets you fill in podcast settings; generating details or saving a new podcast requires an eligible trial or plan. See Free exploration.

Create a podcast

1. Click Podcasts in the sidebar.
2. Click New Podcast. The dialog opens with every field on one screen.
3. Fill in the fields below, then click Create Podcast.

Generate with AI

Click Generate with AI, describe your idea (up to 4,000 characters), then click Generate details. Jellypod drafts a title and description and picks one or two of your existing hosts. You need at least one character already created for it to choose from.

Jellypod writes in the language you explicitly ask for, otherwise the language of your idea, and sets the podcast's Language to match. Everything it fills in stays editable before you create the podcast.

Required fields

• Title: Up to 100 characters.
• Description: 10 to 3,000 characters, with basic rich text formatting.
• Hosts: Select at least one character. Every episode uses these hosts by default, and an episode can override them. If a selected host is tuned for a different language than the podcast, a warning says it may sound less natural, and the warning links to the Characters page if none of your hosts fits the language.
• Language: Defaults to a language Jellypod supports that matches your browser settings, otherwise English. Episodes are generated in this language, whatever a host's voice is tuned for.
• Visibility: Public or Private. Private means no website, RSS feed or share links, so you download episodes from the Studio. See Podcast Visibility for what each choice does.

Optional fields

• Cover Art: Upload your own image. If you leave it blank, Jellypod generates one from your title and description. If generation fails, the podcast is still created, without cover art.
• Advanced: Podcast Author (credited in podcast directories, prefilled with your name) and Type, either Episodic or Serial (episodes in chronological order).

What is set up when you create it

• Categories: Up to 2 directory categories are chosen automatically from your title and description.
• Subdomain: A free yourshow.jellypod.com address is generated from your title. You can change it later.
• Intro: None. Generate one from Generating a Podcast Intro.
• Podcast sources: None yet.

Everything else, including language, author, type, branding and sources, can be changed afterward in Editing Podcast Details.

When you click Create Podcast, the podcast appears in your list and you can create your first episode from it.
