Share characters: publish, add from Explore and fork
Publish a character to Explore, add other teams' characters to your workspace, fork one to make your own editable copy, and report a character.
Characters you make stay private to your workspace until an admin publishes them. Published characters appear in Explore on the Characters page, where other teams can add them or, when allowed, fork them. Jellypod's Terms of Service apply to everything published.
Publish a character
Only workspace admins can publish. Members see the Sharing section on a character's page with Ask an admin to publish.
A character can be published when:
- It has an original image and a complete model sheet, with all five standard views.
- Its voice comes from the Voice Library. Characters with a cloned voice cannot be published.
Open the character, find Sharing and click Publish. Choose whether to Allow forking: on lets other teams make their own editable copy, off means they can only cast it as you published it. Click Publish to release a frozen copy of the profile, voice, original image and model sheet.
Jellypod checks every publication automatically, including every model sheet image. Most characters are listed in Explore right away. A character that may impersonate a real person, contain sexual or hateful content, or be someone else's brand mascot is marked In review and is listed once Jellypod staff approve it.
Update or unpublish
Your edits stay private until you publish them. When the character has changed since its last release, Sharing shows an Unpublished changes badge; click Publish update to release the new version. Teams that added the character switch to your latest published version for anything they generate next. Content they already made is not changed. If the check flags an update, Sharing shows Update in review and Explore keeps your current version until staff approve the update.
The Allow forking switch changes the setting for future adds and forks. Teams that added a version that allowed forking keep the right to fork it.
Click Unpublish to remove the character from Explore. Nobody new can add it, while teams that already added it keep using the last published version. Click Publish again to list it once more.
Add a character from Explore
Explore shows Featured characters picked for your language by Jellypod, then the Community grid. Search by name, title or publisher, and sort by Popular (the most-used characters first) or New.
Click a character to see its portrait, description and voice, with a play button and who published it. Click Add to My Characters to add it to My Library. An added character:
- Can be cast in podcasts, Magic Video, Shorts and Voiceovers like any other character.
- Is read-only. Its page shows the profile, model sheet and voice, who published it and when it was last updated.
- Follows its publisher's latest published version.
- Counts toward your plan's character limit while active. Archiving it frees the slot. See plan limits.
Fork a character
When a character allows forking, click Fork in Explore or Fork to edit on an added character's page. Jellypod copies the published version into a new character your workspace controls, with its own images, and opens it. A fork counts toward your character limit, starts private, and can be published by your admins with its own Allow forking choice.
A fork's page shows where it came from, for example Based on Nova by @Acme, including every earlier character when it was forked from a fork.
Report a character
Open a community character in Explore, or a character you added, and click Report to tell Jellypod what is wrong with it. You can still report an added character after its publisher unpublishes it. Staff review reports and can remove a character from Explore.
