Episode video: templates and aspect ratio

Pick a Podcast Template and an aspect ratio (landscape, portrait or square) for your episode video, and save both as defaults for the podcast.

Every episode has a video preview with controls above it. This page covers the two that shape the look of the video: the template and the aspect ratio. For the rest of the section, see Podcasts and Episodes.

Choosing a template

  1. Open an episode in the Studio.
  2. Click the Video Style button above the video preview to open the Choose a video style picker. The button shows your current selection.
  3. Select a template card, then click Use (it names your pick, for example "Use Karaoke"). Cancel closes the picker without changing anything. Use stays disabled until you select a different template.

Templates are fixed layouts, so the preview updates instantly and nothing is generated. Karaoke is the default for new podcasts and episodes. Switching templates changes only the visuals: your audio and script are untouched. To set the default for every new episode, see Video Settings in Editing Podcast Details.

Templates do not use brand kit colors. The background comes from the Background control next to the template picker. If you have not set one for the episode or podcast, it is derived from the podcast cover image, or a dark gray when there is no cover image.

TemplateWhat it shows
Classic AudiogramA waveform synced to the audio, with the podcast cover art.
ConversationHost avatars that pulse as each person speaks, with live captions.
Classic CaptionsCaptions in clean typography over a styled background.
Full Screen CaptionsLarge captions that fill the screen.
SpotlightCaptions that emphasize key words as they are spoken.
KaraokeLarge, centered captions with karaoke-style word highlighting.

Full Screen Captions

Large captions fill the frame against the background color you set with the Background control. Choose it when you want a text-first video with no waveform or avatars.

For a new Video from a prompt, see Choosing a Video Product to pick between Magic Video and Shorts.

Aspect ratio

  1. Open an episode in the Studio.
  2. Open the Orientation dropdown above the video preview. A checkmark marks the current selection.
  3. Choose an option. The preview resizes immediately.
OrientationSizeRatioGood for
Landscape1920x108016:9YouTube, website embeds, desktop viewing
Portrait1080x19209:16TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels
Square1080x10801:1Instagram feed, X, LinkedIn

Landscape is the default when nothing else is set. To get the same episode in several ratios, choose one, download the video, switch to another orientation and download again. Each render is independent.

If both controls are greyed out with the tooltip "Video appearance is temporarily locked", the episode's appearance can't be edited at that moment. Try again shortly.

Save your choice as the podcast default

When your template or orientation differs from the podcast's saved default, a small prompt appears under the controls, for example "Use Karaoke for every new episode?" It works the same for both controls:

  • Save as default applies your pick to every new episode of this podcast. Existing episodes are unchanged.
  • Not now dismisses the prompt.

The episode keeps your pick either way, so ignoring the prompt costs nothing. You can also set both defaults in Video Settings under Edit Podcast.

Existing Magic Video Episodes and Podcasts

Podcast episodes are focused on audio, so Magic Video cannot be chosen as an episode template or a podcast default. New AI-generated video starts in Magic Video or Shorts, where the visuals are fully editable.

Episodes that already had Magic Video visuals keep them:

  • They keep playing and rendering as before, including after you regenerate the episode's audio.
  • If the narration under a visual changes enough that the picture likely no longer matches, the timeline shows a Needs regenerating badge. It is a signal only: these visuals can't be regenerated, refreshed or edited on an episode, and the timeline offers no slide controls.
  • Picking a Podcast Template in the Video Style picker replaces them with that template.
  • A podcast whose saved default was Magic Video starts new episodes on Karaoke.

Create a Magic Video from an Episode

  1. Open the Episode and click Video Style.
  2. In the Magic Video banner above the Episode templates, click Create Video.
  3. Choose a visual style, then click Generate (~… credits) to confirm the estimated cost.

Jellypod creates a separate, editable Video with new visuals. It reuses the Episode's saved narration, speech timing and music, without regenerating audio. Each copy can be edited independently. The credit estimate covers the new visuals.

You can also copy a Video into a Podcast.
