Episode generation failed or lines are Not voiced
Fix an episode whose audio generation failed: the Generation failed dialog buttons, partial results with Not voiced lines, refused wording and credits.
A new episode's editor stays closed until its first generation voices at least one line. Until then you follow progress from the episode's row on the podcast page (see Podcasts and Episodes). For videos, shorts and voiceovers, see video, short and voiceover failures instead.
Why does my episode say Generation failed?
If generation fails, or a run stalls, click the episode's row to open the Generation failed dialog. It names the cause. When you can fix it, the dialog adds a button that takes you there:
- Choose a voice: a character has no voice, or its voice is no longer available.
- Add credits: the account ran out of credits. See Understanding Credits.
- Review sources: a source could not be processed. Replace or remove it in Managing Sources.
- Create a character: an imported script names speakers that are not saved characters.
Then click Retry generation to run generation again. It appears on its own when the failure looks temporary, such as a script that could not be written or a run that stopped early.
There is no Retry generation button, only Close, when the same request would fail the same way. That covers wording the voice provider refuses to speak, a script that cannot be imported as written, and lines the voice provider could not voice. Edit the wording or switch the character, then create the episode again. The dialog explains why. If a run stops reporting progress, Jellypod marks it failed automatically so the episode is not left locked.
To see what a normal run looks like, read Watch it generate.
Why are some lines Not voiced?
If at least one line is voiced, the episode counts as a success. Jellypod keeps the audio it produced and opens the editor, and each line it could not voice shows a Not voiced badge. If no line is voiced, the episode fails instead.
Hover the badge for the cause. A common one is a voice provider refusing the wording. Edit the wording or switch the host on that block, then click Regenerate Audio. The badge and the Review lines banner are described under Speech blocks. See Regenerating Individual Segments to fix just those lines.
Regenerating audio is free, within a daily limit.
When a regeneration fails
Once the editor is open, a failed regeneration leaves the previous narration untouched and highlights the affected speech blocks. Click Regenerate Audio on each one to bring the episode up to date. A line the provider refuses is marked Not voiced instead, since regenerating would not change the outcome.
Was I charged?
Credits are held when generation starts. If the episode fails, the hold is released and you are not charged. If the episode succeeds with some lines Not voiced, you are charged only for the audio that was voiced.
